Big Tower Day

Saturday 24th June was our Big Tower Day!

We were abseiling down the church tower to raise money to support the mission and work of Mottram Parish Church.

About 26 brave souls went over the top - from the three youngest at 7 years old to joint oldest at 62 years. And bravest of all, Rev James Halstead stepped over the edge in faith, and descended with the panache of a pro! Over the next week or so, we'll be posting photos from the day on our website photo gallery. Check out the latest batch here.

To see our YouTube video of James descending the tower, click here. And then you can join him as he nervously watches his daughter Alice, descending just before him - click here. Actually, Alice wasn't nervous in the least!

A big "Thank you!" of course, to Simon Davidson and his team from LifeCentre Hattersley, who were in charge of keeping us safe on the way up and down the tower. We couldn't have done it without these guys and girls.

9am - 12.30pm: 26 lucky people got to abseil down the tower! 1pm - 4.30pm: tours of the tower, included a roped-up visit to the roof - for those who dared! A BBQ, drinks and cakes, plus a comedy sponge throw, all made for a brilliant day!

This is our big fundraiser for 2017. At the time of writing, we had made over £3,300 in sponsorship. You can still support us by sponsoring individual abseilers (see their own Justgiving pages), or you can sponsor the whole team by donating through our Just Giving Page.

Apart from our Sunday and mid-week services, we conduct weddings, funerals and baptisms, support our local schools financially and with time and committment as Foundation governors, maintain links with missionary and charitable organisations at home and overseas, and provide pastoral care and support to all who come to us for help and friendship. The church relies entirely on regular giving from church members, donations, and fundraising to look after our medieval building and fund our work in the parish.

Thank you to all who have supported us so far!
