"You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses …to the ends of the earth. When he had said this…he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight…Then they returned to Jerusalem … and were constantly devoting themselves to prayer… When the day of Pentecost had come they were all together in one place... All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit... and that day about three thousand persons were added."    Acts 1, 2

“In praying 'Thy Kingdom Come' we all commit to playing our part in the renewal of the nations and the transformation of communities."   Archbishop Justin Welby

A global wave of prayer

Thy Kingdom Come is a global prayer movement that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus. What started in 2016 as an invitation from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York to the Church of England has grown into an international and ecumenical call to prayer.

Since then the number of Christians and denominations has grown dramatically and 65 denominations in 114 countries now take part – involving over 1,000,000 people – all praying “Thy Kingdom Come”.

The object of the invitation is for Christians to join together in prayer with a fourfold purpose:

  • To deepen our personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • To pray for the Holy Spirit to work in our lives – to work through us and in us.
  • To pray for people we know – and love – who do not know Christ as Saviour.
  • Through that prayer for the spreading of the Kingdom of God throughout the world - making “Thy Kingdom Come” a reality.

As in previous years Thy Kingdom Come will be focussed between Ascension Day and Pentecost – 30 May to 9 June.
